At the time of the creation of this piece I was reading for a second time “The Power of Now” by Eckhart Tolle. I wanted to remind myself of the importance of being present.
I recognize that when we live without awareness, we can easily identify ourselves with our thinking, creating limitations within us. It’s the narrative in our minds that creates those limitations, making it difficult to connect with our own essence, with who we are.
The whole process of painting involves being in the moment and honouring it. My awareness comes through that creative process, and by taking each step of the way without the need of focusing on the end result. I enjoy being immersed in those moments not governed by the mind. They are very fulfilling, magical and I feel I’m expressing creatively from another state of mind.
Escape, was developing on its own. I had no previous plan, however, I’m sure that all my inner work was making its way to the surface silently.
As I look at the painting while writing this, I realize it embodies that repetitive narrative represented as solid blocks, and the wonderful feelings released through the cracks running through those patterns.
This work represents a feeling of joy, a moment of freedom, a moment of consciousness, a moment of connection with something deeper and higher.
As Eckhart Tolle mentions in his book, there are beneficial effects of inner body awareness, the sense of freedom that comes from letting go of self-identification with one’s personal history and life-situation, and a newfound inner peace that arises as one learns to relinquish mental/emotional resistance to the “suchness” of the present moment.
Being present takes practice and it’s worth experiencing it, even a little bit every day.
Any creative expression helps make the connection with one’s inner self, and that’s why in each artwork I do my best to embark on a new mindful journey embracing the great power of now.
