Stardust belongs to the series “In Excelsis”, and represents a celebration of possibilities, a dance with Life, a handful of dreams, an illuminated flash of inspiration, faith, love…
It originated from one of my architectural photographs. I remember going through some pictures taken on one of my trips to Barcelona, when a shot of the interior of the Sagrada Familia’s cathedral tower called my attention. It was an overall grey image showing a void. At this moment, I don’t recall if I was looking up or down when taking the picture leaning from a balcony. The void was the attraction, and the sense of infinite depth accentuated by the thick round walls containing the space. This is what I remember seeing at the time, however, it’s not what I painted.
Seeing involves a process of receiving an image, sending the message to the brain and interpreting the message with meaning. While I did not place any judgement to the photograph nor did I label the memories associated to the void or the attribution of meanings, the act of seeing was combined by the perception of something different.
A mental image was developing as I was relaxed and connected to myself. This image was completely different compared to the one captured with the camera. I visualized light coming from the bottom and lots of colours floating upwards bringing a sense of expansion and a deep feeling of joy all around. Painting the image I was holding in my mind, felt as an extension of myself, a mindful moment, and the awareness of the wonderful experience of being, a feeling of vast spaciousness.
Reflecting on this creative process, I realize about the importance of cultivating presence. The power of consciousness, the power of beingness, comes from a realm of stillness, which opens up a world of possibilities and it’s the most freeing and satisfying experience.
