As It Happens… has just been created at my new studio located in the Alton Mill Arts Centre (Alton Village). It represents the starting point of the new series of artworks called Umbrales (‘Thresholds’ in Spanish, my mother tongue).
At the time I was studying Architecture in Buenos Aires, I used to find intriguing and captivating the transitional periods in the history of humanity. It’s so interesting to study and discover the way that a chain of events either subtle or loud can unfold, develop and lead to a new set of conditions.
These periods of transition can become the catalyst for a change. They are key to uncovering the underlying process involved because they contain lots of useful information.
I feel that humanity is presently undergoing an interesting transitional period, beyond all the different global and individual circumstances which we are all living in. I admit that this period as a whole has been impacting me, and as an artist it is helping me to process it creatively.
As It Happens… depicts my own process, my curiosity in finding clues and comprehending the cause of my inner shifts. As a result, I’m shedding old layers and dissolving anything that obstructs my ability to see and reach out to who I really am, my true self, to bring it back to the surface.
I’ve faced resistance to moving away from what has been familiar and stepping into the unknown of the next stage. It has taken introspection, and with it, awareness and honesty to be able to accept it as part of the nature of evolving into something new.
Transitional periods tend to reflect the conclusion of a cycle, a stage, a time…I see them as vital times to generate change, transformation, expansion, renewal or rebirth.
